Listen on Sunday!

Mark your calendar! Find me on the radio with Farmer Fred this Sunday, April 26th!

I will be a "virtual" guest on the KFBK "Garden Show" and KSTE's "Get Growing" from 9am to 11am this Sunday! Because the studio is basically closed to in-studio guests during COVID 19, Fred and I will be chatting via the good 'ole fashioned telephone.

I'm super excited to be chatting again with Fred Hoffman, Lifetime Master Gardener, on his two radio programs!

The "KFBK Garden Show" on 1530-AM/93.1-FM KFBK in Sacramento, California (each Sunday morning from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Pacific Time) is followed by "Get Growing" on Talk 650 KSTE  (from 10 a.m. to Noon). At noon, it's the KSTE Farm Hour. You can listen to all the shows, live, via the KFBK.com and KSTE.com websites.

If you can't listen while it airs live or via internet streaming, be sure to check back here for the links to the podcasts! You can also find links to everything on Fred's web site, http://farmerfred.com/ or on his Face Book page.

We'll be talking about everything from the pro's and con's of raising backyard chickens, summer chicken care, chick care, flock maintenance, and bio-security. This will be a great taste of what we will discuss at our chicken classes each spring (go to the Classes tab for more information).

Got Chicks? Now What?!

This morning I was invited to do a recorded segment on Get Growing with Farmer Fred Hoffman,  providing some tips and tricks about raising baby chicks. Right now, there is a frenzy happening, and people are picking up chicks wherever they can!

I will be back on his show April 26th, so be sure to listen in from 9:30am until about 11am, on iHeart Radio, KFBK/KSTE. You can find the links on his page, as well as the podcasts.
You can hear me at about 66:00.

The Chicken Purse

A few months ago when I spoke with Jen, an entrepreneur and Chicken Consultant in Chicago (yes, even the city of Chicago allows urban hens for eggs) about her business, she told me about a chicken purse that she carried which actually was what got her started....she had gone to visit her accountant, he asked about her chicken purse, and whaalaa, she helped him with getting his own hens going in his backyard. He joked that she should become a professional "consultant" to those who wanted to raise chickens, and she did! It was as a joke at first, but soon she realized that it was serious and people all over Chicago were interested.

The "Chicken Purse" was one of the many things Jen and I had in common....I felt an instant camaraderie with her; we both had chicken purses!

My own purse was made for me by my mother-in-law, Yone, who is a magnificent quilt and seamstress. It's one of a kind, quite adorable, and it's feet even sway to and fro as I carry it on my arm when I walk! If you see someone with it in town, it's me! Say hello!
