Listen on Sunday!

Mark your calendar! Find me on the radio with Farmer Fred this Sunday, April 26th!

I will be a "virtual" guest on the KFBK "Garden Show" and KSTE's "Get Growing" from 9am to 11am this Sunday! Because the studio is basically closed to in-studio guests during COVID 19, Fred and I will be chatting via the good 'ole fashioned telephone.

I'm super excited to be chatting again with Fred Hoffman, Lifetime Master Gardener, on his two radio programs!

The "KFBK Garden Show" on 1530-AM/93.1-FM KFBK in Sacramento, California (each Sunday morning from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Pacific Time) is followed by "Get Growing" on Talk 650 KSTE  (from 10 a.m. to Noon). At noon, it's the KSTE Farm Hour. You can listen to all the shows, live, via the KFBK.com and KSTE.com websites.

If you can't listen while it airs live or via internet streaming, be sure to check back here for the links to the podcasts! You can also find links to everything on Fred's web site, http://farmerfred.com/ or on his Face Book page.

We'll be talking about everything from the pro's and con's of raising backyard chickens, summer chicken care, chick care, flock maintenance, and bio-security. This will be a great taste of what we will discuss at our chicken classes each spring (go to the Classes tab for more information).

Live Broadcast With Farmer Fred!

I had the privilege this Sunday (Feb 28th) of being an in-studio radio guest for Fred Hoffman (a.k.a. "Farmer Fred"), which aired live on Talk Radio KSTE 650 and KFBK 1530 from 9:30 to 11am.

The KFBK Garden Show and Get Growing happen each Sunday morning in the greater Sacramento region, and I've been an avid listener for many years! So it was a huge deal to me personally to be on the show. It was great to see the behind-the-scene activities of a radio show, and Fred was a gracious host! We talked about bringing home new chicks, took phone and email questions, and had a blast.
My husband took pictures, so here's a look:

Chickens For Eggs - Interviewed by Fred Hoffman, of "Get Growing" on KSTE

I was pretty darn excited to get an email the other day, from none other than Fred Hoffman, the Master Gardner and host of "Get Growing" on both KSTE and KFBK radio out of Sacramento. I listen to his local garden and farm show almost every weekend, and many times I have thought about reaching out to Farmer Fred to see if we could do a segment on chickens and backyard chicken keeping. His reaching out to me couldn't have been more perfect timing!

If you didn't get a chance to listen to my clip with Fred on Sunday, here are the links to hear the podcasts. We talked about how there are different chickens for different purposes, the PHI program, chickens in the garden, common pests on chickens, and some of my services. Fred is a talented producer! I had a fun time chatting with him.

Fred asked me about the costs associated with keeping a few backyard chickens, and I realized that I never really answered his question during our interview! I will be putting something together in the next few weeks to help people gauge the costs involved. It was a good question!
